JG MP5 review

JG MP5 heavily upgraded inside and out
Make: Jing Gong
Model: MP5 A4 (originally)
Cost: £110 + £300 upgrades
From: Airsoft world

Overview
This review is going to take me back as it is on the first AEG I ever owned, the JG MP5 A4. Im not quite sure how to tackle this, as I have spend over £300 on upgrades and so the replica can hardly be classified as "Stock" but I think It would still be worthwhile to share with you guys all the lovely stuff that has been packed into this replica and its monster performance.

So I brought this MP5 from airsoft world about 5 years ago for around £110. It was a budget Chinese clone from Jing Gong and I felt that this would be a great starting model that I could upgrade over time as I had more money to spend on my new hobby. I have to say that at the time I was more than happy with both its quality and performance. For the price I paid it was indeed a perfect starting AEG. Coming in at around 350fps with 800 rounds per minute It was able to hold its own with most of the AEGs at my local site, not bad for a stock Chinese clone!

Upgrades
However, it didn't stay stock for very long. Over the last 5 years or so, a constant stream of money has been drip fed into the replica. My goal throughout this project was to generate an AEG that stayed well within the UK standard FPS limit 328 fps while offering excellent short to mid range accuracy and an rate of fire that would shred anything you shot at. Alongside this, I wanted something that would be compact and versatile to suit the type of sites I play at (woodland and CQB) and this has resulted in the AEG pictured above. This AEG includes the following upgrades:

Externally
  • Full metal ICS receiver
  • Full metal  ICS cocking tube and front barrel assembly
  • Folding G&G UMP45 style stock for comp-actability
  • Large type G&G fore grip allowing use of large type batteries
  • Optional top mounting scope/red dot rail
  • Optional silencer
Gearbox
  • Modify 7mm reinforced V2 gearbox
  • Modify high speed smooth gear set
  • Modify cylinder and piston
  • Modify dampening piston head
  • Modify cylinder head
  • Modify tappet and air nozzle
Electrics
  • Airfet mosfet
  • 8.4v 3700 Nimh tornado battery (faster rof than a 9.6v due to capacity)
  • Standard JG high torque motor (plans to upgrade)

Barrel and Hop up
  • Madbull 6.03 tight bore barrel
  • Guarder hop up bucking
  • Marui MP5 hop unit
  • H-nub hop up bucking
All of the above has cost in excess of £350 maybe £400, but as it was over the course of a pretty long period and so it has been a gradual investment. The results of these upgrades having been pretty staggering and have led to many in the field asking what actually has gone into it. The accuracy is great for such a short barrelled replica and it is very versatile to use. But its best feature is by far its rate of fire and the smoothness of the gearbox.

Performance
Power : 320fps +/- 4fps
Rate of fire : 1200 rpm
Range : 200ft
Accuracy : Head size targets to 100ft
Chest size targets out to 200ft
BB weight : 0.25g

Conclusion
A seriously pimped AEG that is born and bread for CQB and woodland skirmishes. My first AEG but also my favourite.
