G&G SUSAT with box and adjustment tool
Being a fan of the British forces look and owning the ICS L85A2, purchasing a SUSAT was nearly always going to be on the agenda. This is especially the case as in my opinion the SUSAT is the only optic that really looks good on the L85 design. Although the ACOG has featured more recently on the weapons used in Afghanistan before the new elcan sights are finally phased in I still personally really like the SUSAT. Fire support once again were on time with their dispatch and delivery so no quarrels there. On to the review...

Package

So the SUSAT arrived in what I have to say is a very nice plastic foam lined case which in itself was very well built and of excellent construction. It would look at home and be perfectly suited to any rough environment you may find yourself using it in and It offers very good protection to the sight indeed. It looks as if it would be waterproof as there is a rubber seal running the edges, but I certainly wouldn't be concerned if it got left out in a shower. It has two sturdy clips that hold the case shut and a locking wheel that screws in to really lock it down.

The Sight

Once out of the box it quickly became apparent that as the old saying goes you do indeed "get what you pay for", the sight feels extremely well made and very hefty. Every single bit is a strong well cast metal all the screws and tightening fixings are very solid and function perfectly. On top, they have included the close range iron sight which is a nice feature, but completely useless for airsoft really as it cannot be zeroed and at close range largely unneeded.

G&G SUSAT sight picture
The reticule in the sight is the traditional pillar sight, unlike many SUSAT sights for airsoft that feature a standard sniper cross-hairs. Some say that it is too obstructive and a very closed reticule and I can say why they say that. The eye relief could be better and the sight picture is only best if you get your eye right inside the sight. This can be tricky with goggles or classes on but i actually really like the traditional sight picture and after a while got used to it. You can if needs be, trim a little of the rubber off the eye cushion and increase the eye relief but as I said, I managed just fine.

Attachment

Now a quick word on compatibility. There seemed to be before I bought this sight a lot of confusion as to whether a G&G SUSAT would fit an ICS and other variants of L85A2. I can say without a doubt that it will fit both the ICS and G&G variants, I am unsure however about other brands.

After taking the rear and forward sights off my ICS L85 loosened of the sights fastening screws and depressed the lever that raises the locating pin on the underside of the sight. It slid straight onto the sight rail and clicked securely in place. After tightening up the fastening screws it was held firmly without any wobbles what so ever to the rifle. It fits PERFECTLY.

Conclusion

Value: 4/5
Quality:5/5
Functionality3/5

A superbly built and accurate sight from G&G, one of the more expensive sights available but worth every penny in my opinion. Eye relief is an issue but comes down to personal preference in the end.
